South Side Announces

2005 Club Members of the Year

Provided by Cory Johnson, Newsletter Editor – South Side Imperial Dance Club

John McIntosh

This 2005 Club Member of the Year is active in the greater St. Louis Dance community. He is often the quiet helper behind the scenes. In contrast, he can often be seen on stage around St. Louis as a fantastic DJ. When our long-time Audio Director, Linda Huebner, needed an assistant to spin the CDs for her, this generous and helpful fellow came forward as the faithful regular helper. Despite the fact he had plenty of his own music, he politely played Linda’s choices. More recently, he has been in the rotation of our visiting DJs, bringing his own music and often his own equipment. He frequently helps with set-up before the South Side Dances. He has always been willing to pitch in and help with anything that needs to be done. He’s helped with the club picnics and in a variety of other ways. You can spot him many evenings taking lessons to enhance his dance skills. Not limiting himself to South Side, he is regularly involved at several of our sister clubs. Many ladies have commented that he is a considerate and great dancer as well as being very pleasant and friendly. We could call him an Ambassador of Swing as he can be seen dancing with so many different ladies at so many different venues around town. John McIntosh, we are proud to call you our 2005 Club Member of the Year.

Ruth Gilbert

This 2005 Club Member of the Year has brought new energy and ideas to South Side. She has willingly taken on many jobs such as helping DJ, checking out music at our sister clubs, purchasing new fans to keep our dancers cool, compiling information on new audio equipment, and helping with whatever needs to be done. Her friendly and positive attitude puts others at ease and makes everyone feel welcome at South Side. As a South Side Ambassador, she pushes our events at our St. Louis sister clubs as well as at many out of town swing dance events. Serving as the Outside Social Director, her leadership skills were evident in the great success of our Anniversary Dances and Club Picnics. She created beautiful new decorations and an elegant ambiance at our recent Anniversary Dances. She also added entertainment, which facilitated more involvement and added to the fun. She eagerly met the challenge of pulling off the first annual Federation Club Picnic. It was quite a job to work with the representatives from our sister clubs and coordinate everyone’s involvement. The Picnic was such a success the Federation voted to continue the joint venture again this year. This new Club Member of the Year is currently serving in her second directorship on the South Side Board. As the new Audio Director, she has brought out-of-town DJs to play at our dances and has a full schedule of talented DJs lined up for the coming year. Ruth Gilbert, we are pleased to call you our 2005 Club Member of the Year.

Editor’s note: Perhaps you have someone in your club you would like to recognize nationally in this newsletter. If you do, please send a photo and a description of what he, she, or they accomplished on behalf of your club to the newsletter editor at rjim@mac.com.
