Move Across the River

An ABA Convention
Novedmber 8th – 12th 2005

by Jo Reynolds – Memphis Bop Club

dance floor

One of the most impressive things noticed this year was the quality of dancers.

Take approximately 900 attendees and put them in an appropriately sized room with a wonderful dance floor and add to that some awesome music and you have my version of happiness. Just when you are exhausted and think you will rest; yet another gentleman will walk thru that door and ask for a dance.

It is so great when you can travel and revisit your favorite dance partners from time to time but yet even more gratifying when you make new ones as I did in Cincinnati. As usual this was such a well organized party with many gracious hosts to assist you if needed.

Band of Oz
Band of Oz

Thursday nite's live performance by the “The Band of Oz” exploded with such high energy and talent people from the floor joined in on the stage.

(Several of the ladies did quite well too.) What a pleasure!

Watching Band of Oz
hosts

There were free pours and dinners Friday and Saturday nite including their famous ribs.

In addition there were free workshops in Bop, West Coast, and Shag and that covers most categories that we encounter at all events.

However if you choose not to attend all the workshops there are many items of interest close by. One being an original German settlement about 5 minutes away near Covington, Ky. It has many shops and restaurants along with orginal homes still there.

There is also the renovated train station just across the bridge in Cincinnati and my favorite spot in a small older neighborhood called “Zip’s”. If you want a delicious burger, fries, and milk shake like you used to get when you were young and also at a very nominal price you must try it. They throw in a cup of their famous Cinci chili. Well----they don’t actually throw it but you get my drift. The facility is just off the expressway and easily accessible to many other attractions in the metro area.

Band of Oz

My traveling partners and I plan to return next year and may I encourage each of you to join us and share the fun. You will leave tired but relaxed and you will have made even more friends along the way.

Thank you Cinci for another great party.
