Bop on the Lake – 2005

September 22nd &ndash 24th

by Glenda Harrison – Little Rock Bop Club

Elvis, The Beatles, and The Village People were in “rare” form at Bop on the Lake 2005! It seems they all wanted to be there for the 2005 Hall of Fame Induction of Mike & Debbe Lapina, and Tom & Edie Polzin. Another successful Bop on the Lake, which sold out 7 weeks before the event, proved to be the best yet.

Bop on the Lake - Elvis

The historic Arlington Hotel in downtown Hot Springs, Arkansas was the place to be and the place to dance. We were honored to have workshops with Willie & Diane Santacruz, Gary & Charlotte Chaney, Mike & Debbe Lapina, and Team Joe. Our very own DJ, Scotty Mack started the event Thursday night, and Terry James, Charlie Menefee and Larry Williams, along with Tom and Edie Polzin finished out the weekend with the best music anyone could ask for.

The Little Rock Bop Club is known for their great hospitality, and our famous “fried catfish” that again proved to be a favorite on Friday night. Saturday night was all the pizza and salad you could eat, and then the leftovers were a great late night snack for the “die hard” dancers still going at midnight.

Bop on the Lake - Beatle

Our theme this year was “Dancing Through the Decades,” since this was our 10th anniversary of Bop on the Lake. The skit was “blasts from the past,” with a medley of music, musicians, and dances that everyone could relate to. We had plenty of “screamers” for Elvis and the Beatles. and “Singing in the Rain” was quite the show with Mike and Kim Nelson, Nancy Mitchell and Jimmy Parker, respectively. All together, the LRBC Theatre Group put on another Show Stopper. Our shirts were “wild“ (tie dyed) and several people became very creative with scissors and the tie dyed shirts.

Jim and Lennie Laux, were again the Chairpersons for Bop on the Lake and as always put together a very organized and detailed party.

Plans are already in the works for Bop on the Lake 2006, so mark your calendar for September 28-30, and order your tickets early. We expect a sold-out event again next year, because this is a party no one should miss!
