President’s Message
November 2005

September saw two great ABA conventions at “Rollin on the River” in St. Louis and “Bop on the Lake” in Hot Springs, AR. Jim Laux This month features a convention at “Move Across the River” in Cincinnati, at least the 8th consecutive year that Cincinnati Bop Club has hosted an ABA convention. Thanks to all these clubs for their wonderful parties and their support of the ABA.

The Bop on the Lake ABA Convention was the site of this year’s Hall of Fame inductions and special awards. Mike and Debbe Lapina of the Chicago Windy City Jitterbug Club and Tom and Edie Polzin of the Memphis Bop Club were this year’s inductuees into the ABA Hall of Fame. This year’s George Baer Award for outstanding contributions to the success of the ABA went to Gary and Charlotte Chaney of South Side Imperial Dance Club in St. Louis. Congratulations to all of these recipients for their well deserved recognition.

Gary Chaney reports that the ABA Cruise is now up to 224 dancers. It’s not too late to still join this late January – early February party that’s shaping up to be something very special.

Based on approval of the majority of the directors, the ABA made a $500 donation in September for hurricane relief for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Thanks to all of you who responded for letting the ABA share it’s good fortune with those in need.

Our next ABA annual meeting will be held January 14 in Nashville. You’ll be receiving details on the meeting this month. Please try to have a representative of your club in attendance. Besides taking care of our ABA business, this always turns out to be a fun small winter dance party.

Best Regards,
Jim Laux
